The e-Government Implementation Work Committee held its second work coordination meeting at the Ministry of Transport and Communications in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.

Speaking at the meeting, U Min Thu, the Chairman of the e-Government Implementation Work Committee and Union Minister for the Office of the Union Government, urged committee members to step up efforts to draft and enact the required law, framework, policies, and rules and procedures on time as the Union Government is committed to providing e-Government services to the people to boost competitiveness, attract investment, and ensure transparency, accountability, and responsibility.

To implement the e-Government system, the e-Government leading committee and implementation committee were established on 23 January last year.

When implementing the tasks containing in the Myanmar e-Government Master Plan, the committee will also have to carry out tasks which are required and demanded from time to time, after seeking approval from the leading committee, said Union Minister U Min Thu.

“The action plan must be realistic and effective,” said U Min Thu, while asking the committee members to present the findings of the survey.

He also asked the committee to report on plans for upgrade of the quality and safety of the government service network.

He called for systematic cooperation and coordination between the sub-committees and the work committee so tasks can be implemented effectively.

Afterwards, U Thant Zin Maung, the Vice Chairman of the work committee and the Union Minister for Transport and Communications, said the committee will lay down future tasks after reviewing the responses to the e-Government Readiness Assessment Survey sent from ministries.

As the Myanmar National Portal has been opened, cooperation between ministries needs to be increased further so information can be distributed to people, he said.

He also suggested the government use current data centres, instead of establishing new ones.
U Thant Zin Maung also suggested the same platform be used for the project, as the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw has already approved the e-GIDC project.

Government departments and the private sector are working together to draft the Cyber Law and Policy, and the first draft is targeted to be complete in June this year, he said.

Besides, the work committee will make efforts for promoting digital literacy and connectivity, he added. At the meeting, members of the work committee and sub-committees and invited guests discussed the implementation of resolutions taken at the first meeting, the Myanmar Unicode system, the Radio Frequency ID system, the registration of domain names and e-mail addresses for ministries and State-level bodies, drafting of the Cyber Law, and formation of aid groups.
